Casual Market Assistant – Job Description 

The Market Assistant works with the Executive Director and other Market Staff to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the Duncan Farmers’ Market. The Market Assistant reports to the Executive Director.   

Hours:  Spring/Summer 7:00am – 3:00pm; Fall/Winter 8:00am – 3:00pm  

(Hours vary due to the seasonal nature of the market.) 

 Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  

  1. Maintain professionalism and conduct business in a polite and courteous manner with vendors, public, staff and board members. 
  2. Market Setup/takedown (barricades, power boxes, bollards, tables, chairs, tents & signage) 
  3. Clean up Market space  
  4. Offer Market Vendors help with setup and relief when appropriate  
  5. Enforce Market rules & guidelines  
  6. Interact with the public and vendors in a friendly, respectful and enthusiastic manner, giving information and directions as needed  
  7. Assist with daily collection of fees and reporting  
  8. Monitor and direct traffic at beginning and end of the day  
  9. Deal with complaints effectively and respectfully  
  10. Assist with other Duncan Farmers’ Market activities and programs as directed by the Executive Director (i.e. BCAFM Coupon Program, Special Events) 
  11. Follow market communication and safety protocols 
  12. Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications: 

Must be available on Saturdays  
Ability to lift ~40lbs  
Excellent customer service skills
Experience handing money  

Rate of Pay: $18/hour
